We use personal information to operate and administer the Akoko-Nan program, including to:

Referrals, Social Workers, DCFS, Courts, and Other Authorized Recipients

Some participants are referred to Akoko-Nan by a social worker, case worker, court, child-welfare agency, community organization, or another service provider.

When a participant has provided authorization, Akoko-Nan may share appropriate program information with an authorized referring party. Depending on the authorization and circumstances, this information may include registration information, attendance, program progress, participation or compliance information, evaluation information, or completion status.

We may also disclose information when required by law, court order, subpoena, or other valid legal process.

Akoko-Nan does not intend to disclose participant information to a referring party beyond the participant's authorization or another lawful basis for disclosure.

Class Access and Remembered Devices

Akoko-Nan uses secure email links to help registered participants access online classes without requiring a separate website username and password.

If you choose to access a class from a recognized browser or device, the website may store an anonymous device-access token in your browser. This allows the site to recognize that browser on future visits.

The token stored in the browser does not contain your name or email address. Akoko-Nan stores only a protected representation of the token on its servers.

Recognized-device access currently expires after approximately 150 days and may also stop working if browser storage is cleared, you change devices or browsers, your program status changes, or Akoko-Nan revokes access.

You can remove remembered access from a device by clearing the site's browser storage or contacting us for assistance.

Zoom and Online Classes

Akoko-Nan currently uses Zoom to provide online classes.

When you choose to join an online class, information necessary to provide the meeting experience may be processed through Zoom. This may include your display name, device or connection information, and information generated through your participation in the meeting.

Audio, video, chat, and other information you choose to provide while participating in Zoom may also be processed by Zoom according to its own terms and privacy practices.

Akoko-Nan does not require participants to create a separate Zoom account simply to access the Akoko-Nan class through the website.

Homework Submissions

Participants may submit homework through the Akoko-Nan website.

A homework submission may include:

  • Your name

  • Your email address

  • The lesson associated with the submission

  • Written responses or notes

  • An uploaded photograph or file

  • The date and time of submission

Homework submissions are stored in Akoko-Nan's website system and may also generate an email notification to authorized Akoko-Nan staff so the submission can be reviewed.

Please do not submit highly sensitive information that is unnecessary for the homework assignment.

Payments

Akoko-Nan currently uses PayPal to process online payments.

When you select a payment option on the Akoko-Nan website, you are directed to PayPal to complete the transaction. Payment information that you provide directly to PayPal is processed according to PayPal's own terms and privacy practices.

Akoko-Nan does not directly collect or store your full credit card number, bank account number, or card security code through the Akoko-Nan website.

Akoko-Nan may receive transaction information from PayPal, such as your name, email address, payment amount, transaction status, and transaction identifier, as necessary to identify and administer payments.

PayPal maintains its own privacy statement governing information processed through its services.

Website Hosting and Service Providers

The Akoko-Nan website is hosted using Wix.

We use Wix services for functions that may include website hosting, database storage, file storage, security, website operation, forms, email automation, and related administrative services.

We may also use service providers such as:

  • Wix

  • Zoom

  • PayPal

  • Google, for published lesson materials and related content

  • Email and communications providers

These providers may process information on our behalf or receive information when you use their services.

Their handling of information is also subject to their own privacy and security practices.

Cookies and Browser Storage

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for security, website functionality, performance, and other site operations.

Wix places certain essential cookies on Wix-hosted websites for functions such as security, stability, fraud detection, rendering, and platform operation.

Akoko-Nan also uses browser storage to support recognized-device class access as described above.

If Akoko-Nan enables optional analytics or other non-essential tracking technologies in the future, we will provide appropriate notice or controls where required.

You can control or delete cookies and stored website data through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies or browser storage may prevent certain features, including remembered class access, from working properly.

Do Not Track Signals

Some web browsers provide a "Do Not Track" or similar privacy signal.

The Akoko-Nan website does not currently change its behavior in response to browser Do Not Track signals.

You can manage cookies, browser storage, and other website permissions through your browser settings and any privacy controls made available on the website.

California guidance recommends that privacy policies explain how a site responds to browser Do Not Track signals when applicable.

How We Share Information

Akoko-Nan does not sell personal information.

We may share information only as reasonably necessary to operate the program or as otherwise described in this policy, including with:

  • Akoko-Nan facilitators, staff, and authorized volunteers who need the information to perform program responsibilities

  • Website, email, file-storage, communications, and technology service providers

  • Zoom when you access online classes

  • PayPal when you choose to make a payment

  • Referring organizations, social workers, case workers, DCFS, courts, or similar recipients when authorized by the participant or otherwise permitted or required by law

  • Government agencies, courts, law enforcement, or other parties when disclosure is required by law or reasonably necessary to protect legal rights, safety, or security

We do not use participant information for third-party advertising or sell participant information to data brokers.

Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the program, maintain appropriate program and administrative records, satisfy reporting or legal requirements, resolve disputes, and protect the rights and safety of Akoko-Nan and its participants.

Different types of information may be kept for different periods.

Short-lived class-access links expire automatically. Remembered-device access currently expires after approximately 150 days unless revoked sooner.

Registration, attendance, completion, consent, referral, and other program records may be retained for a longer period when reasonably necessary for program administration, reporting, documentation, or legal purposes.

When information is no longer reasonably needed, we may delete, anonymize, or securely dispose of it.

Security

Akoko-Nan takes reasonable administrative and technical steps to protect personal information.

Sensitive program databases are restricted from normal public access. Class-access tokens are designed so that raw server-side authentication tokens are not stored with participant information.

However, no website, internet transmission, electronic storage system, or third-party service can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Please contact us if you believe your information or account access may have been compromised.

  • Update your contact information
